Spring Into Summer…Changing Up Your Routine

I am in full support of catching some ‘spring/summer fever’. If you’re looking for a recharge to jump-start the summer and dare I say, ‘bikini season’, here are a few simple tips to get you back on track, boost your mood and make your meals a little greener.

Get outside

Who doesn’t love warmer weather and sunshine?  Take advantage of it and change up your exercise routine with some outdoor activity or take your first trip of the season to the Greenmarket. Spring fruits and vegetables are finally coming on to the scene!

Shake things up

Our bodies love variety, both with food and with exercise.  Change things up - test out a different breakfast or swap out a new salad or sandwich for lunch, try some new dishes at dinner.  If you fell into a pattern of skipping breakfast or missing out an afternoon snack, hit reverse!  Recharge your metabolism by aiming to eat well-balanced meals and satisfying snacks every 3-4 hours.

Refocus on fruits and vegetables - Fruits and veggies are ideally coming into the picture in some fashion at every meal and most snacks.  Bring back balance and clean things up on your plate (and drop a few extra lbs while you’re at it) with great early summer seasonal produce like asparagus, artichokes, apricots, strawberries, rhubarb, peas, ramps and fennel.  A great spring/summer artichoke recipe can be found here.

Stay tuned to find out about the City’s Best Farmers Markets coming soon on HSNY!
