This Weekend: Gen Art Film Festival

Bright lights, big city, even bigger film festival! Although the Tribeca Film Festival seems to snag the headlines in the latter part of this month, right now all the spotlights are on Gen Art for its 15th Anniversary Film Festival this year!
Last week at the launch party at 7 for All Mankind in Soho, the cutting edge Gen Art Film Festival presented by Acura was in full effect. As DJ Reach spun the tunes to the likes of Wham, Michael Jackson, and of course Lady Gaga, convos overheard ranged from the variety of films which premiered at the fest in years past such as Crash. As for this year’s line-up, well it’s mostly sold out with tickets only remaining now for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.
We briefly caught up with Danielle Staub from the Real Housewives of New Jersey at the soiree. While she admits she doesn’t watch the show, she’s busy working on her memoirs. “I’ve been told it will be released by Barnes & Noble with 150,000 copies.”
She’s currently gearing up for the all-encompassing tour which includes various stores throughout the country including Bookends in none other than Ridgewood, NJ (shout out, Jersey!). When I asked how she finds a balance and manages it all including her career, her daughters and their careers, she answered, “We pray every morning.”
In addition, considering the Real Housewives of New Jersey, along with Jersey Shore, haven’t exactly put Jersey on the map in the best light, she indicates, “I can only represent myself.” As Danielle mingled with other party-goers, red carpet arrivals included a plethora of stars and film folks including Bryan Batt from Mad Men and Kelli from NYC Prep.
The buzz surrounds this year’s red carpet stunner, happythankyoumoreplease which premiered last night at the prestigious Ziegfeld. The flick focuses on several twenty-something relationships in the city and was shot in Manhattan. It won the prestigious Sundance Audience Award so theater-goers are in for a real treat! Plus, happythankyoumoreplease will follow the short film Patrol, directed by John Patton Ford. And like all films during the seven night festival, it isn’t complete without an after-party!
Celebrities who will make appearances this week include Rachel Bilson, Josh Radnor, Malin Ackerman, Adrian Grenier, Tom Everett Scott, Diane Von Furstenberg, Rooney Mara, Kate Mara, Carla Gugino and others. The Gen Art Film Festival runs April 7th through the 13th and is comprised of seven features and seven shorts from emerging artists.
