I love summer in the city. Sure it can get hot and sticky, but it’s also a time when the streets open up and events, activities, and fun stuff abound. You’ve got rooftop films, river flicks, street fairs, farmers markets (the list goes on and on!). This week we’re featuring a place where activity is almost always a given, and now on Thursday’s it has purpose!
Wander down to Union Square every Thursday this summer for Summer in the Square. Presented by the Union Square Partnership, Summer in the Square runs from June to August 12th and is a combination of free music, exercise programs and kids events. Every Thursday the day starts with Fitness in the Square starts at 7:00 AM with “The Basics of Running 101″ followed by “Open Level Yoga” at 8:00 AM, both presented in partnership with lululemon athletica. Then at 9 Brooklyn Bridge Bootcamp finishes off the morning exercise regime with a full body aerobic workout.
Head back with the kids and meet at the playground from 1o AM to 12 for Kids in the Square. Past Thursdays have included Yogi Beans Mommy & Me Yoga, the Gazillion Bubble Show and a performance by children’s music artist David Grover. This week, July 15, Yogi Beans Mommy & Me Yoga starts at 10 followed at 12:00 by Princess Katie & Racer Steve.
Finally, you can end your all-day Union Square adventure with Music in the Square starting at 4 PM. This weeks performance includes The Lightyears at 4 followed at 6:00 by Dani Elliott.
