Happy Hours With A Twist (From Rooftops To Exhibits)

Coincidentally, New York City’s museums and galleries have more to offer than meets the eye. As much as we love the traditional aspect of visiting a museum or gallery and learning something new or looking at beautiful artwork, this summer a lot our cultural havens have broadened their horizons a bit and have taken to hosting happy hours. Now it is fully possible to educate yourself and take a load off, relax and have a drink! As an added bonus, the majority of these events take place outdoors in the most visually satisfying and picturesque of summer hangouts: gardens, rooftops and terraces.

We’ve all had the opportunity to check out the classics from Picasso to Michelangelo at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, but how many of us have checked out the Roof Garden Café and Martini Bar? With panoramic views of Manhattan along with an assorted drink menu (as well as a few light food choices), it is truly a little slice of heaven. Just take the elevator up to the fifth floor and you’ll find this superb summer escape located in the sky!

The Museum of Modern Art continually proves itself to be one of the hippest museums in our fine city. It now plays host to MoMA Nights every Thursday night until the end of August. Taking place in the modern and stunning Sculpture Garden is a slew of cool musical acts. This month they’re paying tribute to French musicians. There’s a cash bar and seasonal tapas for purchase, along with the Garden Cart for all those frozen treat lovers out there. So bring a date or get your gals together for a night of good music, beautiful scenery and yummy eats!

Another great option for the culturally diverse is Free Music Fridays taking place at the American Folk Art Museum. Every Friday until the end of the month they are playing host to eclectic music concerts starting in the early evening right after you’re done with work for the week – how perfect is that? So head on over to the museum to hang out in the atrium, have a refreshment or two from the café and listen to some live bands.

There you have it! A long list of new and fun evenings out practically every night of the week for the rest of your summer!
