In Season, In Style (and no, we’re not talking fashion)
Since Fashion Week just passed, I thought I’d keep you in the know, cause you’re so stylish! Just like that sexy pair of Chloe fall boots, that amazing pleated, double-breasted coat in the winter, and your hot, flirty, strapless dress in the summer, you too can keep what you eat in season and in style, sweetheart. You’ve got to get with it and learn that staying in season is not just about fashion. It’s a lot easier to shop for that perfect tomato or peach compared to shopping for that perfect pair of leather pants or chain-covered booties. Trust me. Mother Nature has made it so easy by already picking out what you should eat! Now, as for what to wear, you better go figure it out, fall is around the corner darlin’.
Look there are already plenty of tools that exist to teach you to how to eat in Season! Who knew!? Easiest way to figure it out, without calling Old Mac Donald or mad science research, is to go to a farmers market or the grocery store and look for the sales in the produce aisles. If you hit up your local farmer’s market, everything should be IN SEASON and as fresh as it ever could be! If you go to your local grocery store, look for the corn that’s 5 for a $1 (insane deal) and the nectarines that are .77 cents a pound! Yeah, that means they’re in season, my friend. I’m no economist, but a surplus of anything will tend to lower its cost; that’s just a no brainer (like when you get those bad irregular jeans at your secret discount store; surplus baby!). Also, it may be too optimistic, but if your local grocery store promotes locally grown and in season products also, you should be able to keep your eye out on the local grocery store’s advertisements for what’s in season, on sale, and at it’s peak in flavor!
For example, there are items peaking right now that you should be looking for (in September). Early fall/late summer is a gorgeous time of year to be eating fresh and in season! The vibrant colors from fresh Italian squash, sweet red grapes, fresh crisp Gala apples, and gorgeous bright-eyed asparagus are just a few of the options in my local area that are in season right now! Not only is eating in season, good for you (more nutrients in the food when it’s in season), it’s also a great way to save $$$ so that you can buy that fabulous Miu Miu Handbag or that hot pair of Louboutin stilettos you’ve been drooling over….and still fit into those bargain designer jeans you bought because it’s so healthy! So hmmm lets see:

1.) Staying in season is easy to follow: Mother Nature wrote the calendar for us! If you stay in season with fashion trends, why haven’t you been staying in season with food?

4.) Eating in season keeps you looking fabulous! Stay in tune with your body and the seasons around you by eating healthy and keeping up with a well balanced diet. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables throughout the course of your day.
5.) Support local farmers in your area. I really can’t stress this part enough! Find out where you can shop locally grown produce; support local farming and eat what’s in season and closest to you in your area! Oh and just a bonus, I hear that the farmers market can also be a great place to find other hot and sexy people…. Like attracts like, right? 12 Signs He’s The Real Deal
1. He understands. The two of you may not always agree, but he definitely tries to see your side of things. And even if he can’t relate to what you’re upset about, he still tries to calm you down and makes you feel better about the situation and yourself.
2. He tells you. Oh, those three special words, I love you. They are the words some men have major trouble saying. Hearing him say “I love you,” and knowing he means every word, is a great sign that he’s in this for the long haul.
3. He shows you. Everyone knows that men have trouble expressing their feelings with words. This is why they often feel more comfortable using other forms of expression, like taking you out for dinner when he thinks you need a break from cooking or understanding that you might need some time to yourself. While you may like to hear those sweet whispers of affection from him, sometimes actions speak louder than words.
4. He listens to you. Is he genuinely interested in what you’re saying when you talk to him? Does he give you his undivided attention during your conversations, instead of having the television blaring in the background? Fall Trends: 5 Must Haves for 2010
1. Tall Boots
Boots are a staple in any New Yorker’s closet because they never ever go out of style. What’s different this season though is the height of the boots with some reaching up all the way up to the thigh. Tall boots are great because they work on any woman and they can make your legs look miles longer than they actually are (bonus!). If thigh high boots aren’t your thing, try a pair to the knee for some added sexiness. There is nothing quite like a good pair of boots to take you from jeans to dressy in no time!
2. Ponchos & Capes
This seems to be the season of comfort because ponchos and capes are the new “it” items for outerwear. Talk about easy and breezy – these oversized cover-ups are made to go over just about any kind of outfit. Find one in black that’s a bit more tailored for office wear and bring out a funky printed poncho for a night out with the girls. If you’re a little sick of your peacoat from last season, give one of these a try for a look that is sure to turn some heads!

Still feeling like you don’t want to delve into the really dark stuff quite yet? Not to worry, all things nude and neutral are all the rage this season! For a change from white, designers everywhere are giving all things camel a try. Get out your classic trench from spring or try out a tan colored leather jacket for something new and exciting. From sweaters to tees to even fancy party dresses, it’s the color to try this season for a night out on the town!
5. Big Pants
Okay, what’s more comfy than a pair of pants you can actually move around in? For this season (although we still adore our skinnies and jeggings) the wider the leg, the better! For all you denim lovers, feel free to dig out your bell bottoms from a few years back or even try this look at work with a wide leg pair of sophisticated dress pants. If you’re not completely sold on this idea, try them with a blazer or fitted sweater to help you ease into this style. Remember that trends supposed to be fun, so don’t be afraid to make this look your own.

The Who, What, When, Where, How and Why of Weight Loss
One of the most common reasons why many of us struggle with weight loss and weight maintenance is because we fail to look at the: who, what, when, where, how and why we actually gained the weight in the first place. Once we’re able to ask ourselves these questions and come up with some insightful answers, we can understand how to finally create a weight loss plan that actually works. The first place to start is with the who of weight loss.
1. Who triggers you to overeat?
It can be a boss who triggers us to grab foods to calm or relax us after a stressful day at the office. It can be a friend or partner who encourages us to overeat because they want a “food buddy.” It can be someone who shows their love for you through the food they’ve prepared and we eat to avoid hurting their feelings.
2. What types of foods you are eating?
Are you struggling with your food choices, eating too much junk food, takeout, prepared or fast food? Are the foods you’re choosing high in fat and sugar? Are your portions too big and you’re finding yourself “economy sizing”, “super sizing” or “value-mealing?” Are you choosing foods that don’t satisfy or fill you adequately? Are you taking in too many liquid calories?
3. When are you overeating?
For many people, weight issues stem from over eating the same foods at the same time. For example, many parents find they over eat their children’s snack foods between 3-4pm. Others find that late night snacking while watching TV is the place where they’re taking in too much.
4. Where are you doing most of your overeating?
You may be overeating at the kitchen counter while preparing food and snacks. Others find that the living room couch after a long day is where the damage is done and still others can blame weight gain on the Saturday night breadbasket at their favorite restaurant.
5. How are you over eating?
You can be eating socially, mindlessly, binge eating or eating emotionally. With social eating you’re not hungry, but you’re simply eating to be a part of the group or the experience. You may be concerned about being judged, criticized or questioned if you don’t eat what everyone else is eating so you use the opportunity to eat foods you’d normally limit or avoid. With mindless eating, you take in extra food as you’re passing it to others, when you grab something as you see it on the counter or someone’s desk, eating while preparing food or eating while reading, watching TV or doing anything else that takes your attention away from concentrating on what you’re eating. Poor food choices or eating to improve our feelings or mood are the most common reasons for binge eating. For example, a diet high in sugar often encourages binge eating behavior because the sugar provides a quick energy surge followed by an energy crash. That crash encourages a high sugar binge in order to regain that energy so quickly gained and lost. With an emotional eating binge, we overeat to calm, numb, soothe or relax. It’s used as a means to self soothe and self medicate. It’s a technique we use to deal with our stress, fears, anger, frustration or hurt and we eat to encourage a boost of serotonin, one of the body’s “feel good” chemicals.
6. Why are you overeating?
Questioning yourself after a binge is one of the best times to ask that question. With compassion and without judgment, simply ask yourself “what do I really need?” or “what was I really looking for?” Rarely is it food and more likely it’s compassion, security, sleep, friendship, a fulfilling project, satisfying relationship, enriching and meaningful job, more confidence or simply a call for a better way to handle your stress.
The more we understand the: who, what, when, where, how and why of weight loss, the better we can create a plan that works for us…not against us. While it may take some effort to come up with the answers, every answer you find brings you one step closer to gradual yet lasting weight loss.
