Five Trends to Try Out in Spring 2012

Ah, Spring time in New York. The buds are starting to come out. The Great Lawn in Central Park is all green and lush again. The Shake Shack is the place to be during lunch (or any hour!). Suddenly the streets are even more bustling than they usually are. Nothing beats spring time in the city.

Along with all that wintery white stuff being a thing of the past and the warmer temps climbing day by day, comes the time of shopping for spring trends (which is the best part of any season change, right?). With everything from 1920’s fashion coming back to color blocking and keeping it nice and light with pastels, this spring season is all about letting your guard down, experimenting with different colors and patterns, and ultimately just having fun!

Five Trends to Try Out in Spring 2012

Bloom Baby Bloom
What’s spring time without some flowers? It just wouldn’t feel right if our wardrobes didn’t reflect Mother Nature’s precious gifts. We’ve all seen the floral jeans everywhere, but with fashion heavyweights like Alexander Wang putting a biker chic twist on things with his great cropped jacket and floral pants combo, and Prabal Gurung showcasing a sexy floral dress that’s perfect for your first big date this spring, it’s safe to say that the flowers will be in bloom all season long.
Safari Chic
This spring, whether it’s a bold print or just a subtle mixing of the right colors, every designer out there seems to be on fire for everything tribal. The colors and patterns coming from this trend are truly unique, as soft desert hues seem to be popping up everywhere. With longtime designers like Oscar de la Renta showcasing understated browns and tans in beautiful chiffon dresses and Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. going a bit bolder with a whole tribal pantsuit, you’re bound to feel fun, free and effortlessly sexy while experimenting with this totally doable trend this season.
Flapper Girl
Although us ladies have come a long way from where we were in the 1920’s, that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate what that era brought us fashion-wise. Mainly with this trend, we’re talking about the ultra fabulous and inspired flapper dress. A couple to watch out for are definitely Marc Jacob’s modern take on the flapper dress in metallic blue, as well as Ralph Lauren who pays homage to the roaring 20’s by doing classic white and adding feathers (never a bad choice in my book!). This is an absolute must-try for a fun night out with the girls or your guy because it screams romance, sophistication and flirtatious all in the same breath.
The Color Blocks of Life
Color blocking. This trend may sound totally complicated and intimidating, but luckily it isn’t at all, it’s really just a ton of fun! Color blocking really is as simple as it sounds. It just means wearing blocks of color. And the really fantastic part about it is, the brighter the colors the better. Designers like Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger have really caught on to this dynamic trend with some daring dresses and even a bold one-piece bathing suit. If you’re feeling a little apprehensive and looking for a little guidance, one thing to remember is to try and stick with three colors (or less!) so you don’t look like a box of crayons.
Easter Egg Hues

What’s spring time without a few pastels to truly get you in the mood? Now, don’t worry, these aren’t your typical little girl “Sunday Best” kinds of get-ups, but rather elegant dresses and stunning separates that are effortless and ooze with sophistication. With fashion houses like Prada doing an easy yet so chic knee-length dress (perfect for the office or a ladies’ lunch out!), and Preen doing pastels from head to toe with a beautiful light yellow jacket and equally satisfying Easter egg blue pants, this spring is truly the season to get back to basics and feel like a little kid again!
