Yoga Afuera: Top Spots To Get Your OM On…Outside!

I attended a stellar summer soiree at Equinox Printing House the other night. It was a great time, the highlight being the kick-butt Caponyasa Yoga class (more on that soon) that they held on the roof. It was a perfect night…. cool breeze, fresh air, sun setting over my shoulder… which got me thinking that outdoor yoga is pretty damn great. Sure you need the right weather conditions, but when it’s good, it’s so good. That being said, here’s a list of top spots to get your OM on outside this summer. Best part? Most of them are FREE!

Fitness in the Square –  Start your morning off right with free yoga in Union Square Park. Every other Thursday (check schedule for details) all-level yoga classes will be offered by  CLAY Health Club + Spa.

Lululemon Athletica – Lululemon is back this summer with hopes to help you stay active during the summer months! Free yoga in Bryant Park is back again every Tuesday morning from 10 – 11 a.m. and every Thursday evening from 6 – 7 p.m. with rock star instructors who will help guide you through an open level class.

Hudson River Park – Pier 46 – From now through July 27th, YogaWorks is hosting free community yoga with a trained instructor every Wednesday from 6 – 7 p.m. What makes this hour of yoga in the hot sun even more worth it? Organicoa is providing free Frocoa (frozen cocoa!) to everyone after practice! Yoga + frozen lattes in the Manhattan summer heat = happiness for all!

Yogamaya: All summer long, Yogamaya offers “free yoga in the park” classes, sponsored by the Chelsea Improvement Company. Join them on Thursdays at the “14th Street Park”, 10th Ave b/w 14th & 15th Street for some great yoga fun & post savasana, There is no advance sign-up, just show up and bring a mat if possible.

Open Air Yoga: $15 classes offered in Central and Battery Park City. Ok, this one has a fee, but there is a freebie here too. Class includes a free drink and free essential oil hand wipes.Times and locations vary so check out the full schedule here. Open Air Yoga also offer private outdoor instruction, so you can even get your Om on on your own balcony.
